Federal Pell Grant

Eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant is based on an analysis of the information reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This grant is available to undergraduate students only. Students typically must have exceptional financial need. Grants from the College may be adjusted if Federal Pell Grant eligibility changes from the original amount on the financial aid package.

If you are a Federal Pell Grant recipient, you might be eligible to receive money for books and supplies if the following applies:

  • You are registered for courses for the applicable semester
  • You have been notified of your financial aid eligibility
  • You can view your aid eligibility on the Self-Service section of CamelWeb
  • Your aid for the semester (excluding Federal Work Study) and any payments made to your account exceed the comprehensive fee for that semester

If you meet the conditions above, the Bursar will coordinate a refund with you. You have the right to opt out of this refund program. Please contact the Bursar for clarification.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

This federal grant is for undergraduates with exceptional financial need and priority is given to students who have been awarded the Federal Pell Grant. The amount of the award is determined by Financial Aid Services based on the availability of funding provided by the federal government.

Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant

A student who is not eligible for a Pell Grant but whose parent or guardian was a member of the U.S. Armed Forces and died as a result of service performed in Iraq or Afghanistan after Sept. 11, 2001, may be eligible to receive the Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant. The grant award is equal to the amount of a maximum Pell Grant for the award year, not to exceed the cost of education for that award year.

The student must be:

  • Under 24 years old or
  • Enrolled in college at least part-time at the time of the parent or guardian’s death.

Disbursement of Grants:

Federal grants are normally payable in two disbursements with one-half of the total in each semester. Grants will not be disbursed earlier than 10 days prior to the start of classes. All financial aid requirements must be satisfied for a student to be eligible for a disbursement of financial aid funding.
