As the leaders of the Connecticut College parent community, Parents Council members work to engage their peers in the life of the College as liaisons for parents of current students and alumni. Members also serve as ambassadors of the College in their home communities and professional networks. Increasing parent support, in all its forms, is the primary focus of the Connecticut College Parents Council.

The Parents Council meets formally twice a year, once during Fall Weekend and again in the spring.

Member families lead by example, and demonstrate their support of the College by:

  • Making annual leadership gifts to the Parents Fund to provide crucial unrestricted dollars that support every aspect of a Connecticut College education, including financial aid, study away, athletics, visiting scholars and countless other programs and opportunities for current students.
  • Serving on one of the Parents Council’s standing committees:

    Career and Professional Development Committee
Collaborates with the Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD) to educate parents about ways they can become involved in preparing students for careers through job shadowing, internships, career-related panels and other speaking opportunities.  Initiatives include:

    • OCPD’s “Friday Office Hours” Program
    • Fall Weekend “Speed Networking” Program
    • Parents Council Internship Program

     Connecticut College Parents Fund Committee
Builds on Conn’s remarkable tradition of parent philanthropy and works to raise funds from parents to enhance the educational experience for all students.  Members:

    • Help solicit support from peers
    • Host a fundraising event for parents in their community
    • Make an annual gift themselves

     Engagement Committee
Works to engage parents in the life of the College through regional and on-campus programs.  The Committee also assists the Office of Admission with welcoming new families to the College and hosting regional welcome events.  Members:

    • Lead the Parent-to-Parent Program (Welcome calls to new student families)
    • Host Summer Welcome Receptions
    • Host Regional Parent Dinners with President Bergeron and senior administrators

     Senior Parent Gift Committee
Works exclusively with senior parents to raise gifts from families celebrating their student’s accomplishments and graduation from Conn.
