  • Marcucci named top goalie

Marcucci named Division III's top goalie for the second consecutive year

For the second straight season, men’s soccer’s AJ Marcucci ’21 has been recognized as the top goalkeeper in the nation at the NCAA Division III level by being the only player at his position to earn a place on the United Soccer Coaches All-America First Team. The announcement was made at the Pre-Championships banquet in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Dec. 5.

Marcucci finished the season with a 0.58 goals against average, an .859 save percentage and eight shutouts. Through three seasons, the junior has an impressive 25 shutouts and a 0.50 goals against average.

Marcucci was also named to the All-New England Region team by the United Soccer Coaches, as well as the All-NESCAC first team and the NESCAC All-Academic team. He was the 2018 NESCAC Player of the Year and the 2017 NESCAC Rookie of the Year.

This year, Marcucci helped the Camel men’s soccer program put together its best season in program history, as well as one of the most successful runs by any Connecticut College team. The team became the fourth Camel squad to advance to the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament and the third to make it as far as the Elite 8. The team has competed in three straight NCAA tournaments.

The team, which finished 13-4-3, graduates five seniors and is slated to return more than 25 letter winners, including Marcucci, next season.
