Former Olympians and College rowers Tim Young ’92 and Anita DeFrantz ’74 were inducted into the National Rowing Hall of Fame April 23 in Sarasota, Florida.

Young was inducted as part of the men’s quad team that won the silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. At the College, Young helped lead the program to a New England Championship and a gold medal win at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta. He was inducted into the Connecticut College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.

DeFrantz was inducted as part of the women’s eight team that won the bronze medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.

This is DeFrantz’s second induction into the Hall of Fame. In 2010, she was recognized for being a part of the 1976 and 1980 Olympics teams, as well as her service as a member of the International Olympic Committee.

DeFrantz was inducted into the College Hall of Fame in 1989. Since 1995, the College has presented The Anita L. DeFrantz ’74 Award to the male and female student-athletes of the graduating class whose athletic ability, leadership and sportsmanship best exemplify DeFrantz’s qualities.
