National media outlets list College in rankings for entrepreneurship, healthiest campuses

Smart, healthy, entrepreneurial—that’s what “Forbes,” “The Huffington Post” and “Business Insider” reported about Connecticut College students.

“Forbes” listed Connecticut College 16th on its 2015 list of Most Entrepreneurial Colleges, highlighting the Holleran Social Entrepreneurship Initiative. The College outranked Colby, Amherst, Williams, Trinity and Bowdoin.

A review of recent projects funded through the initiative affirms the out-of-the-box thinking Forbes praised in its ranking, which used the number of alumni and students who identified themselves as founders and business owners on LinkedIn to determine the list. Projects developed through the initiative include Spokespeople, the campus bike collective; alternative break trips to build houses in the Dominican Republic and bring medical supplies to Uganda; and skating lessons for local youths.

Other recent rankings include:

  • “Business Insider” ranked Connecticut College 29th on its 2015 list of smartest liberal arts colleges, tied with Colby College and Pitzer College. The rankings are based on the average SAT scores of current students, although the College does not require students to supply test scores.
  • “The Huffington Post” listed Connecticut College as honorable mention on its list of Five Healthiest Campuses in America. The list was determined by Active Minds, Inc., which sought out schools “prioritizing health and demonstrating innovation and excellence in promoting the well-being of their students.”
  • The website College Raptor ranked Connecticut College 24th on its list of 25 Best Small Colleges. The site highlighted the College’s diverse mix of academic offerings and pristine campus.

In recent years, Connecticut College has been recognized by numerous national media outlets, including the “Princeton Review,” which lauded the College’s career program, as well as the value of a College education. “Kiplinger” also named the College a best value, while “Newsweek” ranked the campus 10th on its list of Most Beautiful Schools.
