Wright Places Second in 5000 Meters at UMass Lowell
Gildersleeve Shines in 100 & 200 Meter Dash for Camels
LOWELL, Mass.--The Connecticut College Track & Field teams visited UMass Lowell on the banks of the Merrimack River to compete in the George Davis Invitational.
In the men's invitational, senior Doug Wright (Darien, Conn.) posted a time of 15:10.60 to place second in the 5000 meters, qualifying for both the New England Division III and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship with his finish. Wright finished just 4.09 seconds behind Connor Jennings from the University of Vermont.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the Camel foursome comprised of Geoff Phaneuf (Woonsocket, R.I.) Chris May (Hudson, Ohio), Andrew Duarte (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Ian Rathkey (Old Lyme, Conn.) logged a season-best time of 3:33.54 en route to their sixth place scoring.
Sara Gildersleeve (Sharon, Mass.) had another productive day to lead the Camel women in the Mill City. In the 100 meter dash, Gildersleeve posted a time of 12.57 seconds en route to a fifth place scoring for the Camels. Gildersleeve tied Nichola Minott ‘89 with the second fastest time in program history and qualified for the New England Division III, ECAC and All-New England Championship with her finish.
In the 200 meter dash, Gildersleeve had her ticket stamped for the ECAC Championship, posting a time of 26.35 seconds en route to an eighth place scoring for Connecticut College.
In the same event, junior Sarah Matthews (Westwood, Mass.) qualified for the New England Division III Championship with a time of 26.97 seconds.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the Camel quartet comprised of Gina Deitz (Portland, Ore.), Michelle Wesley (Millwood, N.Y), Merry Byrne (Brookside, N.J.) and Matthews placed fourth with a season best time of 4:16.38.
