Women-Matthews Finishes Fifth with School Record in 600 Meters
Men-Mavrovic & LeDuc Place 1-2 in the Mile
MEDFORD, Mass.--The Connecticut College Track & Field teams competed in the Tufts University Stampede Saturday. Men's Results Women's Results
Both teams scored 26 points with the women taking 10th place and the men finishing 14th. Four school records were set.
Sara Gildersleeve (Sharon, Mass.) and Sarah Matthews (Westwood, Mass.) set school records for the Camels, qualifying for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship along the way.
Gildersleeve posted a time of 8.04 seconds en route to her sixth place finish in the 60 meter dash while Matthews took fifth place with a time of 1:41.26 in the 600 meters.
Kim Bolick (Hopkinton, Mass.) finished 3rd in the 800 meters in 2:24.85. Kerry Dermody (Erieville, N.Y.) finished 7th in the 1000 meters in 3:13.32. Both performances qualified for the New England Division III Championship, but neither qualified for the ECAC Championship.
Lianne Swanson (Franklin, Mass.) placed seventh in the 5000 meters with a time of 19:24.75. Samantha Pevear (Somersworth, N.H.) threw the shot put 35 feet, eight and three quarters of an inch in an eighth place scoring for the Camels.
The Camel women scored in three relays Saturday. In the 4x800 meter relay, Kim Bolick, Ally Bonito (Guilford, Conn.), Michelle Wesley (Millwood, N.Y.) and Kerry Dermody posted a time of 10:06.80, qualifying for the ECAC Championship with their fourth place finish.
Sara Gildersleeve, Vicki Weigold (Glen, N.H.) Val Svystun (Newington, Conn.) and Sarah Matthews placed seventh with a time of 1:52.00 in the 4x200 meter relay.
In the 4x400 meter relay, Natalie Clark (Hanover, N.H.), Merry Byrne (Brookside, N.J.), Weigold and Gina Deitz (Portland, Ore.) posted a time of 4:34.42 en route to their eighth place showing for the Camels.
Brian Gooch (Columbia, N.H.) and Dan Smoot (Lexington, Mass.) set school records for the Camel men. Gooch posted a time of 7.37 seconds in the 60 meter dash, while Smoot recorded another school record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.38 seconds.
In the mile, Alex Mavrovic (Thetford Mines, Quebec) and Mike LeDuc (Canton, Conn.) placed 1-2 for the Camels with respective times of 4:18.37 and 4:22.04.
The Camel men scored in a pair of relay events. In the 4x800 meter relay, Ian Rathkey (Old Lyme, Conn.), Matt Boudreau (Bridgewater, Mass.), Mike LeDuc and Dan Post (Pepper Pike, Ohio) placed third with a time of 8:21.03.
In the 4x200 meter relay, Brian Gooch, Geoff Phaneuf (Woonsocket, R.I.) Ian Rathkey and Chris May (Hudson, Ohio) posted a time of 1:38.34 en route to their seventh place scoring.
