Vadas Explodes with Career-High 36 Points for Camels
DANBURY, Conn.--Sophomore Matt Vadas (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) exploded with a career-high 36 points and seven rebounds but it was not enough as Western Connecticut State University improved to 16-4 with a 78-62 victory in Danbury, Conn. Tuesday. DaQuan Brooks (Atlanta, Ga.) erupted with 47 points in the win for the Colonials.
"Brooks is a special player," Connecticut College Head Men's Basketball Coach Tom Satran said. "We couldn't stop him although we tried just about everything. Hopefully we will bounce back on Friday."
The 36 point outburst for Vadas marked the fourth time the sharp-shooting guard has scored 30 points or more in his nascent career. It was the highest single-game scoring output for a Camel since Charles Stone ‘08 netted 37 points against Salve Regina University back on Dec. 9, 2006.
Vadas converted 12-of-20 shots from the field and was 11-for-13 from the foul line.
Junior Rob Harrigan (Milford, Conn.) finished with nine points and five rebounds in a 3-for-5 shooting performance for the visiting Camels (6-14).
Brooks was 17-for-27 from the field, 9-for-15 from three-point range and 4-for-6 from the charity stripe en route to his game-high 47 points. He added nine rebounds, three assists and three steals for the hosts. The senior guard has scored 30 points or more in four of his last five starts.
Senior forward Gary Robinson (Torrington, Conn.) finished with 10 points for Western Connecticut State.
