Tufts University 83, Connecticut College 55 Vadas Nets 16 Points for Camels

NEW LONDON, Conn. -The Tufts University Jumbos raced out to a 48-23 first half lead and went on to defeat the Connecticut College Camels 83-55 in a NESCAC men's basketball game played at Luce Field House Saturday. The Jumbos improve their record to 12-5 and are 4-2 in NESCAC play. The Camels fall to 6-12 with a 0-6 mark in conference action. C.J. Moss (Westport, Mass.) netted 11 points to lead four Jumbos in double figures. Ben Ferris (Essex Junction, Vt.), Tom Folliard (Richmond, Va.) and Oliver Cohen (PennValley, Pa.) chipped in with 10 points each for the visitors. Connecticut College sophomore Matt Vadas (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) scored 16 points to lead the Camels in the setback. Boris Jeremic (Rijeka, Croatia) finished with nine points in the loss. "Tufts shot the ball really well and that combined with their size really put it us in some difficult situations to defend," Connecticut College Head Men's Basketball Coach Tom Satran said. "They played an excellent game." The Tufts bench contributed 17 points in the opening half. The visitors closed out the first stanza with a 5-to-0 run. Scott Anderson (Sudbury, Mass.) converted a pair of free throws and Cohen closed out the half with a three-ball to put the Jumbos on top 48-23 at the break. Vadas scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half but the Jumbos continued to pull away for the 83-55 win. Tufts will visit UMass-Boston for a 7:00 p.m. game Thursday night. The Camels will visit Wesleyan University next Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. game in Middletown, Conn.
