Gabelman Tallies Eight Points and Nine Rebounds for Camels
NEW LONDON, Conn.--Collier Clegg (Evanston, Ill.) netted 12 of her 16 points in the first half to lead the Tufts University women's basketball to a convincing 51-21 victory against Connecticut College Saturday.
The Jumbos improve their record to 15-3 with a 5-1 record in the NESCAC. The Camels fall to 13-3 with a 4-2 record in league play.
Clegg was 6-for-10 from the field in 17 minutes of action off of Head Coach Carla Berube's bench. Hannah Foley (Acton, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points in a 4-for-7 shooting performance for the Jumbos.
Connecticut College sophomore Tara Gabelman (Irvington, N.Y.) finished with eight points and nine rebounds in the setback. Jocelyn Summers (Highland Park, N.J.) chipped in with six rebounds for the Camels.
Tufts put together a 12-to-0 run midway through the half to build a 20-3 lead. Clegg scored 10 of the points during the scoring surge and capped the rally with a jumper at the 8:45 mark for the visitors.
The Camels responded with a 5-to-0 run near the end of the half to trim the deficit to 24-11 at the intermission.
But the Camels could not find their offensive rhythm and the stingy Jumbo defense induced 24 Connecticut College turnovers on the afternoon.
Kelsey Morehead (Foster City, Calif.) buried a three-ball with 7:03 remaining to break the game wide open at 42-17. Tufts continued to pull away for the 51-21 victory.
