Gabelman Honored on All-NESCAC Team for Connecticut College
Sophomore Forward Leads NESCAC with 9.4 Rebounds per Game
NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College sophomore forward Tara Gabelman of Irvington, N.Y. has been named to the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Women's Basketball Second Team. Gabelman was a destructive force in the low post for a Camel squad that posted a 16-7 record and made its inaugural appearance in the NESCAC Championship Tournament.
Gabelman is the first Connecticut College women's basketball player to earn All-Conference recognition since the league moved to its current Championship format for the 2000-2001 season.
"We are thrilled that Tara has been recognized by the NESCAC coaches as an All-Conference performer," Connecticut College Head Coach Brian Wilson asserted. "To be the only non-senior named to the All-NESCAC team speaks to the impact she has made on our program and in our league. She had a terrific season and we are excited about the prospect of her growth as a player and leader in the years to come."
Gabelman averaged 9.4 rebounds per game to lead the NESCAC on the backboards and was second in the league in scoring with 14.9 points per game.
The Empire State standout recorded a league best 10 double-doubles and tied a single game school record with 23 rebounds in a victory against a nationally ranked Williams College squad back on Jan. 14.
Gabelman finished fourth in the league in field goal percentage (49%), and was eighth in free throw percentage (78%) and blocked shots, with 1.04 rejections per outing.
