Connecticut College Men's 4x100 Meter Relay Team Sets SR at Silfen Invitational
Wesley Triumphs in 800 Meters as Camel Women Finish 2nd in 12 Team Home Invitational
NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College Track & Field teams hosted the Silfen Invitational on a Sunny Saturday in New London.
The Camel women placed second in the 12 team field with a score of 117.33 points, while the men scored 78 points en route to their fourth place showing in the 12 team field.
The Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth swept Saturday's action, scoring 175 points in the men's invitational and edging out the Camels with a score of 121 points to win the women's invitational
Junior Michelle Wesley (Millwood, N.Y.) posted a time of 2:24.92 en route to victory in the 800 meter run for Connecticut College. In the 10000 meters, senior Ali McLeod (Brewster, Mass.) prevailed as the winner in 48:05.47.
In addition to the victories, the Camels had eight second place scorers Saturday.
Sara Gildersleeve (Sharon, Mass.) posted a time of 12.92 seconds in the 100 meter dash. Junior Sarah Matthews (Westwood, Mass.) posted a time of 1:00.67 in the 400 meter dash. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, junior Maura Hallisey (Wethersfield, Conn.) checked in with a time of 12:48.73.
Samantha Pevear (Somersworth, N.H.) threw the discus 122 feet even. Lauren Cameron (Portland, Ore.) reached her apex at four feet, nine inches to forge a tie for second place tie in the high jump.
The Camels added three more second place scores in relay events.
In the 4x100 meter relay, the Camel quartet comprised of Vicki Weigold (Glen, N.H.), Sara Gildersleeve, Val Svystun (Newington, Conn.) and Sarah Matthews posted a season-best time of 50.91 seconds en route to their second place scoring. Gina Deitz (Portland, Ore.), Weigold, Wesley and Matthews logged a time of 4:16.10 in the 4x400 meter relay.
In the 4x800 meter relay, senior Ali Bonito (Guilford, Conn.), Merry Byrne (Brookside, N.J.), Lianne Swanson (Franklin, Mass.) and Kerry Dermody (Erieville, N.Y.) placed second in 10:08.97 for Connecticut College.
The Connecticut College women placed third in three events.
Sara Gildersleeve posted a time of 27.09 seconds in the 200 meter dash. Lianne Swanson logged a time of 5:00.32 in the 1500 meters. In the 800 meter run, Merry Byrne checked in with a time of 2:30.36 for the Camels.
In the men's action, Alex Mavrovic (Thetford Mines, Quebec) had a huge day for the Camels. In the 1500 meter run, Mavrovic posted a winning time of 3:57.09.
In the 4x800 meter relay, the Camel quartet comprised of Mike LeDuc (Canton, Conn.), Matt Boudreau (Bridgewater, Mass.), Tristan Cole (St. Helen, Calif.) and Andrew Duarte (Rocky Hill, Conn.) triumphed with a time of 8:06.15.
The Camel men placed third in three events Saturday. The Camel foursome comprised of Rasheed Mitchell, Brian Gooch (Columbia, N.H.), Geoff Phaneuf (Woonsocket, R.I.) and Alex DeShields (Melrose, Mass.) set a school record with a time of 43.79 seconds in the 4x100 meter relay
LeDuc posted a time of 3:59.81 in the 1500. In the long jump, DeShields covered a distance of 19 feet, seven inches in another third place Camel scoring.
Junior Boris Jeremic (Rijeka, Croatia) covered a distance of six feet, two inches to place fourth in the high jump. Hoitt McAllister (McLean, Va.) posted a time of 15:51.39 en route to a fifth place scoring in the 5000 meters. Andrew Duarte was fifth in the 15000 meters with a time of 4:03.02.
The Camels added three sixth place scores Saturday.
Brian Gooch logged a time of 11.67 seconds in the 100 meter dash. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Jeff Beling (Framingham, Mass.) posted a time of 11:35.86.
The Camel quarter comprised of Geoff Phaneuf, Christopher May (Hudson, Ohio), Aaron Davis (New London, Conn.) and Aaron Fellows (Hudson, N.H.) logged a time of 3:41.40 en route to their sixth place scoring in the 4x400 meter relay.
