Connecticut College 4, UMass-Boston 3 OT Shuffenecker Supplies Game-Winner with 18 Seconds Left in Extra Session

DORCHESTER, Mass.--Samantha Shuffenecker (Oswego, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal with just 18 seconds left in overtime as Connecticut College out-lasted the UMass Boston Beacons in a 4-3 triumph. The visitors put an end to their four game slide, evening their record at 9-9-2. The Beacons fall to 7-12-2 with the setback. Senior assistant captain Lauren Posillico (Nesconset, N.Y.) chipped in with two scores for the winning side while junior Ariel DiPasquale (Whitestone, N.Y.) potted her 10th goal of the season for the Camels. Rookie net-minder Kelsie Fralick (West Chester, Pa.) made 21 stops to earn the victory in goal for the visitors. Emily Howard (Terryville, Conn.), Brittany Usmail (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Kayla Kiernan (North Smithfield, R.I.) supplied scores for the Beacons, who never trailed in the contest until Shuffenecker scored her game-winner. Junior net-minder Jami Cudmore (Balgonie, Sasketchewan) finished with 24 saves for the hosts. Kiernan scored her seventh goal of the season with 1:25 remaining in the second period to put the Beacons on top 3-2. But in the third period, Posillico scored the equalizer with 15:03 remaining in regulation. Sam Schoeneberger (Vernon, Conn.) and Jen Morgan (Orange, Conn.) assisted on the marker. In the later stages of the third period, the Camel penalty kill went to work as the visitors skated off two infractions. The Beacons' power play extended into the first 50 seconds of the extra session but the Camels were able to kill off the penalty successfully. Connecticut College pressured UMass Boston in the overtime and with 18 seconds left, Shuffenecker supplied the game-winner. Jillian Dolliff (Excelsior, Minn.) and Amanda Bogue (Glastonbury, Conn.) assisted on the difference maker.
