Coed Sailing #18 Camels Win John Jackson Memorial Team Race at Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C.-(Michael Callahan Contributed to this Story) The eighteenth ranked Connecticut College coed sailing team opened the spring season in our nation's capital, competing in the John Jackson Memorial Team Race. The Camels posted a 14-3 record to top the eight team field. The regatta is named in honor of John Jackson who graduated from Georgetown in 2003. John, from Kansas City, had never sailed before he came to Georgetown but decided to join the team for the challenge and to meet new people. John was the life of the Georgetown team for three years, he became a great crew and was an even better teammate. Shortly after graduating in 2003 John passed away after a tragic accident in Chicago, Ill. John's parents Dr. and Mrs. Jackson watched the first day of racing and spoke about John at the skippers meeting. SUNY-Maritime posted an 11-6 mark to finish second. Rhode Island and Georgetown finished in third and fourth place with 8-9 records in the two-day regatta.
