Rathkey Wins 600 Meter Run for Camel Men
Dermody (1000 m) & Cameron (High Jump) Post Victories for Women
NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College track and field teams competed in the Coast Guard Invitational Saturday afternoon.
The women placed third in the four team invitational with a score of 123 points, while the men finished fourth with 102.5 points.
Senior Kerry Dermody (Erieville, N.Y.) had a big day for the Camel women. Dermody posted a time of 3:16.13 to win the 1000 meter run.
In the 4x800 meter relay, Ally Bonito (Guilford, Conn.) ran the lead leg and was joined by Lianne Swanson (Franklin, Mass.), Maura Hallisey (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Dermody who teamed up for the victory with a time of 10:53.45.
Lauren Cameron (Portland, Ore.) posted a victory in the high jump, covering a distance of 1.42 meters for the Camels.
The Camels had several second place scorers in Saturday's action.
In the 55 meter hurdles, Stevie Lustofin (Ludlow, Mass.) posted a time of 9.88 seconds. Sara Gildersleeve (Sharon, Mass.) posted a time of 7.68 seconds in the 55 meter dash. In the 400 meter dash, Elena Rosario (Hartford, Conn.) placed second for the Camels.
Maura Hallisey (Wethersfield, Conn.) logged a time of 12:09.03 in the 3000 meters. Ally Bonito posted posted a time of 5:45.82 in the one mile run.
In the 4x200 meter relay, Sara Gildersleeve, Christine Roundtree (Saint Albans, N.Y.) Vicki Weigold (Glen, N.H.) and Natalie Clark (Hanover, N.H.) cruised to a second place finish with a time of 1:53.76.
The Camels added four third place finishes Saturday.
Christine Roundtree posted a time of 7.85 seconds in the 55 meter dash. Senior Lianne Swanson logged a time of 5:51.14 in the mile. Samantha Pevear (Somersworth, N.H.) threw the shot put 34 feet, one and one half of an inch.
In the 4x400 meter relay, Natalie Clark, Catherine Hallisey (Wethersfield, Conn.), Ali Cookson (Beverly, Mass.) and Ali McLeod (Brewster, Mass.) posted a time of 5:11.01 en route to their third place showing.
In the men's action, sophomore Ian Rathkey (Old Lyme, Conn.) posted a winning time of 1:27.49 in the 600 meter run.
The Camel men had three second place scorers Saturday.
Senior Doug Wright (Darien, Conn.) took second place in the 1000 meters, while freshman Patrick Dermody (Erieville, N.Y.) posted a time of 4:42.15 en route to his second place showing in the one mile run.
Junior Dan Smoot (Lexington, Mass.) posted a time of 8.96 seconds to place second in the 55 meter hurdles.
The Camel men placed third in six events.
Brian Gooch (Columbia, N.H.) posted a time of 6.88 seconds in the 55 meter dash. In the 600 meter run, Matt Boudreau (Bridgewater, Mass.) logged a time of 1:28.11 for the Camels. Matt Gitkind (Westborough, Mass.) posted a time of 2:47.76 in the 1000 meters.
Other third place finishes included Aaron Fellows (Hudson, N.H.) in the high jump (tied, five feet, one and one quarter of an inch) and Alex DeShields, who covered a distance of 19 feet, one and one quarter of an inch in the long jump.
In the 4x400 meter relay, Ian Rathkey, Matt Boudreau, Aaron Fellows, and Geoff Phaneuf (Woonsocket, R.I.) posted a time of 3:38.53 en route to their third place scoring.
