onStage at Connecticut College presents 'Moby Dick' by the Gare St Lazare Players Ireland Nov. 13

The Gare St Lazare Players Ireland will bring their award-winning performance of "Moby Dick" to Connecticut College on Sunday, Nov. 13. The performance, part of the onStage at Connecticut College series, is at 3 p.m. in Evan's Hall, Cummings Arts Center.

In a solo performance, actor Conor Lovett, accompanied by musician Caoimhin O'Raghallaigh, presents this great American novel in the style of epic storytellers, captivating his audience with Melville's language and his own virtuosic performance.

"It is an honor to bring this classic of American literature to the stage," said Robert Richter, director of arts programming. "I know of no other actor who can do it justice. Conor Lovett is a masterful actor who has the ability to captivate his audience with the simplest inflection of his voice."

Ireland's most widely-traveled theater company, Gare St Lazare Players Ireland has been widely praised for its solo performances, all by Lovett. The company, directed by Judy Hegarty Lovett, adapted Herman Melville's masterpiece in 2009 as a tribute to the 1956 film version of the novel. "Moby Dick" earned the company an award at the Shanghai International Theatre Festival, and Lovett was nominated for Best Actor at the 2009 Irish Times Theatre Awards.

Tickets are $22 for general admission, $20 for seniors, $18 for Mystic Seaport members and $11 for students.
