Mike LeDuc '14 earns All-NESCAC cross country honors

Sophomore Mike LeDuc has been named to the first team of the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men's Cross Country squad for the second consecutive year. LeDuc posted a time of 26:25 to place seventh on the 8k course at the 2011 NESCAC Cross Country Championship hosted by Amherst College on Saturday, Oct. 29.

It was a miraculous finish for LeDuc, who slipped and fell at the 200 meter mark but was able to recover in resilient fashion for the Camels.

"Mike did at NESCACs what he always seems to do - peak at the right time and run his best in the championship races," said coach Jim Butler.

LeDuc, the 2010 NESCAC Rookie of the Year, placed fifth in last year's conference championship at Hamilton College with a time of 26:23. In just his second year with the program, LeDuc has already inked his name in the Connecticut College annals as one of the top runners to wear the Camel blue.

Last spring, he capped off a memorable rookie season by posting a time of 9:03.72 in the 3000 meter steeplechase to finish sixth in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Ohio Wesleyan University. The finish earned him All-America honors and beat the previous College record for the event, held by Brian Murtagh '09, by more than four seconds.
