Connecticut College's Relay For Life is April 15-16

Connecticut College will host an American Cancer Society Relay For Life April 15-16 on the college's Tempel Green. The annual overnight fundraiser is organized by student volunteers. In 2010, Connecticut College's Relay For Life raised more than $55,000, making it the largest student charity fundraiser. "Everyone knows someone close to them who has been affected by cancer," Connecticut College sophomore Amy Cheetham, one of the student organizers, said. "Relay gives the entire community an opportunity to celebrate survivors, honor those who have battled bravely and fight back against this devastating disease."

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's signature fundraising event, in which teams of people gather and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team collects donations prior to the event, and each has a representative on the track at all times during the relay. Because cancer never sleeps, relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length. Connecticut College's relay, which already includes 40 teams from the campus community as well as the greater New London community, will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 15, and continue until 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 16. "There will be music, food and time to remember how cancer has affected all of our lives," freshman Helaine-Rose Goudreau said. The public is encouraged to participate.
