Connecticut College's annual Fall Stargazing Event is Saturday, Oct. 1

Connecticut College invites guests of all ages to celebrate the beauty of the night sky at the annual Fall Stargazing Event on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Olin Observatory in the Olin Science Center. Stargazing will include binocular and telescopic viewing of the moon, Jupiter (our solar system's largest planet), the beautiful Andromeda galaxy and more, weather-permitting. Planetarium programs for all ages and hands-on astronomy activities for children will go on throughout the evening. At 8 p.m. and again at 9 p.m., Dr. Michael Ostrander, an avid amateur astronomer and member of the Thames Amateur Astronomical Society, will give a talk, "Meteorites, Asteroids and the Origin of the Solar System." The Fall Stargazing Event is free and open to the public and will take place regardless of the weather. Stargazing may be limited in the event of inclement weather. This event is hosted by the Connecticut College Department of Physics, Astronomy and Geophysics; the Thames Amateur Astronomical Society; the Children's Museum of Southeastern Connecticut; and the Treworgy Planetarium at Mystic Seaport.
