Award-winning sociologist José Itzigsohn to speak at Connecticut College
José Itzigsohn, professor of sociology at Brown University, will deliver a lecture at Connecticut College on "The Boundaries of Transnationalism: Dominican American Transnational Practices and Identities." Itzigsohn's research looks at identity and group formation, with a focus on processes of rationalization, and ethnic and nation formation. He is the author of two books - "Developing Poverty: The State, Labor Market Deregulation, and the Informal Economy in Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic" and "Encountering American Faultlines: Class, Race, and the Dominican Experience" - as well as numerous book chapters and journal articles. Itzigsohn was a co-winner of the Latino/a Best Book Award from the American Sociological Association's Latino/a Studies Section. Itzigsohn speaks on Wednesday, March 9, at 4 p.m. in Room 210 of the Blaustein Humanities Center. His appearance is sponsored by the College's Toor Cummings Center for International Studies and the Liberal Arts.
