Connecticut College celebrates women's sexuality with Vagina Monologues Feb. 19-20

NEW LONDON, Conn. - More than 60 Connecticut College students will come together to perform Eve Ensler´s "Vagina Monologues," an international play consisting of monologues that somehow relate to the vagina and celebrate women´s sexuality and strength, Feb. 19 and 20 at 7 p.m. in Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center. "It is truly a beautiful thing to see women of all backgrounds unite to protect others around the world," director Emily Lake, a senior at Connecticut College, said. "The ´Vagina Monologues´ also gives us the opportunity to share the stories of women who have all different kinds of relationships with their bodies." This is the seventh year Connecticut College students have performed the play to raise money for charity. This year, students will donate proceeds from the performance to the Women´s Center of Southeastern Connecticut and the Connecticut College´s Women´s Center. Portions of the proceeds will also go toward stopping sexual violence against women and girls from the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. "The Women´s Center of Southeastern Connecticut is a wonderful resource for the local community," producer Quinn Arevalo, a senior at Connecticut College, said. "Any change made has to begin small and so we want to start in our backyard." Tickets are $10 for the general public and $8 for students and seniors and can be purchased in advance by calling the box office at 860-439-ARTS. Additional donations are greatly appreciated.
