Womenslacrosse.com Honors Kowtoniuk as Defensive Player of the Week
NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College sophomore Ashleigh Kowtoniuk of Johnstown, Pa. has been honored as the
Womenslacrosse.com Division III Defensive Player of the Week. Kowtoniuk made 27 saves in two starts last week, helping the Camels to a pair of wins in Orlando, Fla., including an overtime victory over previously undefeated McDaniel.
Kowtoniuk is averaging 10.75 saves per start in the first four games this season for the Camels. In her rookie season between the pipes in 2009, Kowtoniuk led the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) in save percentage (.545) and saves per game (11.14).
"Ashleigh has been a major factor in each game so far this year," Connecticut College Head Women´s Lacrosse Coach Heather McClelland said. "She made several key stops that helped seal our wins against Wheaton and overtime against McDaniel. She is an extremely athletic goalkeeper with great instincts and sharp reactions, which puts pressure on shooters to make the perfect shot."
A versatile two-sport athlete, Kowtoniuk has played an integral role in the success of the Connecticut College Women´s Hockey program. Kowtoniuk has contributed 12 goals, 15 assists and 27 points in her first two seasons on the ice for the Camels.
