Camels Split with Coast Guard
Murphy Wins Three Events in Win for Women, Walsh Takes 100-200 Back for Men
NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College swimming and diving teams hosted the Coast Guard for a dual meet at Lott Natatorium Saturday.
The Camel women improved to 3-0 with a 161-129 victory against the Bears, while the men (1-2) were defeated by a score of 205-94.
In the women's action, senior All-America Sarah Murphy (Williamsburg, Va.) triumphed in three events for the Camels. Murphy won the 100 and 200 yard free with times of 53.35 seconds and 1:54.71. In the 100 yard butterfly, Murphy posted a time of 59.57 seconds in another victory for Connecticut College.
First year swimmer Ellie Huelbig (Rutherford, N.J.) won the 200 yard butterfly (2:11.65) and the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:45.65. Jessica Schanzer (Monterey, Calif.) notched a pair of wins in both the 100 and 200 yard backstroke with respective times of 1:01.31 and 2:11.65.
Sophomore Katie Karlson (Wayland, Mass.) posted a time of 1:11.64 to earn a win in the 100 yard breaststroke.
The Camel women took two victories in relay events. In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the Camel foursome comprised of Erika Fernandes (Westport, Mass.), Jessica Schanzer, Mackenzie Lilly (Frederick, Md.) and Sarah Murphy logged a winning time of 1:39.47. Schanzer, Fernandes, Huelbig and Lilly posted a time of 4:08.99 to win in the 400 yard medley relay.
In the men's action, junior Tim Walsh (Lincoln Park, N.J.) triumphed in both the 100 and 200 yard backstroke with respective times of 53.44 seconds and 1:58.44. Freshman Ryan Dignan (Phoenix, Ariz.) won the 500 yard freestyle in 4:45.61. Joining Dignan in the winning column was classmate Sam Gill (Springfield, Ill.), who posted a time of 48.51 en route to his victory in the 100 yard free.
In the 400 yard medley relay, the Camel foursome comprised of Tim Walsh, Harry Beauregard (Cumberland, R.I.), Sam Gill and Ryan Dignan teamed up on a winning time of 3:34.66 for the hosts.
