NEW LONDON, Conn.--The New England Women´s Volleyball Association (NEWVA) has recognized the Connecticut College Camels for their academic prowess with its Academic Team Award. The Camels were one of seven teams to garner this honor, attaining a mean team grade point average of at least a 3.3 during the fall semester. The NEWVA Academic Team Award was established in 2008 to recognize the hard work and dedication of the teams´ student-athletes off the court and in the classroom. Head coach Josh Edmed praised the efforts of his squad in achieving this academic award. "Finding the right balance where our players can excel both on the court and in the classroom remains a strong focus for our program," Edmed said. "Having Connecticut College named to the NEWVA All-Academic Team Award is a testament of our focus. I am very proud of our girls for achieving this recognition; especially considering the breadth of prestigious academic institutions that belong to our region and that we are only one of six teams to achieve this recognition in both of the last two years." The Camels have already earned their share of recognition for their academic excellence this year. Senior Lauren Wise (Oakton, Va.) was joined by Marissa DeMais (Hillsdale, N.J.) and Chelsea Manning (Cockeysville, Md.) on the all-academic squad. DeMais was recognized for her academic achievement on the ESPN The Magazine/COSIDA District One Volleyball All-Academic Second Team.
