Camel Women Sweep Bates & Wellesley
Troy Provisionally Qualifies for NCAA Champ. in 100 Yard Fly
WELLESLEY, Mass.--The Connecticut College swimming and diving teams were in action at Wellesley College Saturday. In the women´s tri-meet, the Camels (9-4) defeated the host Blue by a count of 193-74 and earned a 181-106 victory against Bates College. In the men´s action, the Camels (8-4) upended Bates by a final score of 190-103.
Junior Sarah Murphy (Williamsburg, Va.) paved the way to the victory for the Camels with three wins Saturday. Murphy triumphed in both the 100 and 200 yard freestyle with times of 53.88 and 1:57.85 and posted a winning time of 2:13.95 to take the 200 yard individual medley.
Kristen Zarba (Beverly, Mass.) was victorious in both the 100 yard fly and the 500 yard freestyle events, registering winning times of 1:02.71 and 5:24.30 for Connecticut College. Sophomore Erika Fernandes (Westport, Mass.) notched a pair of wins in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke with respective times of 24.63 seconds and 1:09.60 for the Camels.
Other individual event winners included Jessica Schanzer (Monterey, Calif.) in the 50 yard back (29.22 seconds) and Leigh Weymouth (Canandaigua, N.Y.) in the 50 yard butterfly with a time of 27.48 seconds.
The Camels swept the relays. In the 200 yard free relay, Erika Fernandes, Leigh Weymouth, Mackenzie Lilly (Frederick, Md.) and Jessica Schanzer triumphed in 1:41.18. Schanzer, Fernandes, Sarah Murphy and Lilly logged a winning time of 4:05.08 in the 400 yard medley relay.
In the men´s meet, senior Pat Troy (Bradford, N.H.) posted wins in the 50 and 100 yard butterfly with times of 23.05 seconds and 50.41 seconds. The victory in the 100 yard fly met the provisional standard for the upcoming 2010 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship.
Sophomore Tim Walsh (Lincoln Park, N.J.) registered winning times of 25.11 and 53.44 seconds to take the 50 and 100 yard backstroke. Sam Perley (Charlotte, N.C.) posted a pair of wins in both the 50 and 100 yard breaststroke with times of 27.28 seconds and 1:00.61 for Connecticut College.
Other victories for the Camels included: Grant Moryan (Westfield, N.J.) in the 50 yard free (22.04 seconds), Harry Beauregard (Cumberland, R.I.) in the 200 yard individual medley (2:06.01), Harry Squires (Caldwell, N.J.) in the 500 yard free (5:01.66) and Kris Fleming (Gaithersburg, Md.) in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:23.72).
In the 200 yard free relay, Pat Troy, Tim Walsh, Brian Finnerty (Garden City, N.Y.) and Grant Moryan teamed up on a winning time of 1:26.71. Walsh, Sam Perley, Troy and Austin Meszaros (Morristown, N.J.) posted a winning time of 3:33.56 in the 400 yard medley relay.
