Bernier Selected to Play in NEBCA Senior All-Star Game Sunday, April 18 for Connecticut College
NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College senior guard Shavar Bernier of Dover, N.H. has been selected to play in the New England Basketball Coaches Association (NEBCA) Division III Senior All-Star Game this Sunday, April 18, at Babson College. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Coaches vs. Cancer campaign.
The game will feature many stars who have garnered All-America status as well as All-Region, All-Conference, and Conference Player of the Year honors.
Bernier was named to the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men´s Basketball Team back in March. He set the school record for three-pointers in the Camels´ final regular season game, burying six triples against Bowdoin College Feb. 13 for a career total of 203. The previous record was 200.
A 6-1 sharp-shooter, Bernier closed out his career ranked 10th on the Camels´ all-time scoring list with 1,187 points while also contributing 343 rebounds, 220 assists and 154 steals. Bernier led the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) in steals with 2.13 per game and finished second in free throw percentage (.875) and three-pointers made (2.83).
Head coach Tom Satran '94 is pleased to learn that Bernier will share the court with some of the nation´s best players in the All-Star game at Babson Sunday.
"I am very happy for Shavar," Satran said. "His work ethic and commitment to his coaches and teammates over the past four years has been of the highest caliber."
Bernier, a human development major, is the first man in his family to attend college. While he takes pride in his on-court accomplishments and flashy numbers, it's the people at Connecticut College that he will miss the most.
"Coach has been like a father to me since I've been here," Bernier said. "I'm so lucky to have him as my coach."
