Samma Finishes Second in Triple Jump for Men
Van der Eb Places Second in Javelin for Women
SOMERVILLE, Mass.--The Connecticut College Men´s and Women´s Track & Field Teams competed in the 2010 NESCAC Track & Field Championships Saturday at the Dussault Track & Field Complex on the campus of Tufts University.
The women finished one point behind Wesleyan University in ninth place with a score of 18 points. A scoring adjustment moved the Camels .5 points ahead of Wesleyan in 10th with 18.50 points.
Williams College earned a clean sweep, taking the women´s crown for the second straight year and posting its 10th straight title in the men´s championship. Tufts and Williams shared the men's championship in 2007.
Sophomore Marina Van der Eb (Brooksville, Maine) provided the highlight of the day for the women with a second place throw of 115 feet, three inches in the javelin. Keri Ramsey (Westbend, Wis./East Lyme HS) was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 112 feet, six inches.
The Camel women scored points in two relay events Saturday. In the 4x800 meter relay, the Camel foursome comprised of Kelsey Taylor (East Hampton, Conn.), Ally Bonito (Guilford, Conn.), Molly Pistrang (Princeton, Mass.) and Kerry Dermody (Erieville, N.Y.) placed fifth with a time of 9:40.72. Sophomore Brigi Palatino (Ludlow, Mass.), Joann O´Brien (Plymouth, Mass.), Cara Hass (Franklin, Mass.) and Ali Holland (Watertown, Mass.) posted a time of 52.30 seconds to finish in eighth place in the 4x100 meter relay.
In the men´s championship, senior Alex Samma (Ougadougou, Burkin Faso) took second place in the triple jump by covering a distance of 46 feet, eight and one quarter of an inch. In the high jump, Samma reached his apex at six feet, one and one quarter of an inch to finish in sixth place for Connecticut College.
Sophomore Alex DeShields (Melrose, Mass.) was sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.44 seconds. In the 5k, Doug Wright (Darien, Conn.) posted a time of 15:16.46 in a seventh place scoring for the Camels.
The Camel men scored in two relay events Saturday. In the 4x100 meter relay, Brian Gooch (Columbia, N.H.), Alex DeShields, Rob Webbe (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Tommy Howd (Sudbury, Mass.) finished seventh with a time of 44.36 seconds. Tristan Cole (St. Helen, Calif.), Howd, Andrew Duarte (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Colin Gallant (Ashford, Conn.) posted a time of 10:41.40 to place eighth in the distance medley relay.
