Connecticut College's athletic center is buzzing with excitement as the campus prepares for the arrival of two new head coaches - men's soccer's Kenny Murphy and women's basketball's Brian Wilson - who were both named just this week.

"Both of these coaches bring a wealth of experience to Connecticut College, and they will have an immediate impact on our athletic programs," Dean of the Faculty Roger Brooks said in an announcement to the campus community.

Murphy, who was previously the assistant soccer coach at Brown University, becomes only the second head men's soccer at the College in the program's 38 year history. A former professional soccer player and Wall Street commodities broker, Murphy says he is looking forward to competing in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).

"I respect and admire the academic commitment inherent among NESCAC colleges," Murphy said. "I am proud and excited to work with the student athletes at Connecticut College, where athletics and physical fitness are important components of their broader liberal arts education."

Wilson, a highly regarded recruiter and former associate head coach at the College of the Holy Cross, is bringing a renewed sense of energy and enthusiasm to Connecticut College women's basketball, according to team member Emily Cummings '10.

"The team is excited about the positive direction that he has in store for our program," Cummings said.

Both coaches, who will also serve as adjunct instructors, will begin July 1, arriving just in time for the completion of the College's new 6,500-square-foot fitness center.
