Celebrating Mother Earth camel-style

This April, Connecticut College is cranking Earth Day up a notch with events aimed at promoting sustainability, conservation and awareness. "Celebration Earth: 2009" will take on everything from eating local to landing a "green" job.

- April 18 an Earth Fest! celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tempel Green (Rain date is April 19). The event will include a native plant sale, nature crafts for kids and more than 40 educational exhibits and activities from Sprout! (Connecticut CollegeĀ“s organic gardening club), Sierra Club, Planet ZeroGravity, Reforest the Tropics, Save the Sound, Connecticut College Arboretum and local vendors. There will be live music and local and organic food and drinks. There will also be a chance to kick up those heels and lindy hop with a free swing dancing lesson. - April 22 (Earth Day), Dining Services and Sprout! (the Connecticut College organic gardening club) will how a "Localvore Dinner" full of yummy, local and earth-conscious choices from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Harris Dining Hall. The cost to the public is all-you-can-eat for $11.75.

- April 23, Connecticut College will hold an informational "Green Career Fair" for students, faculty, staff and the greater New London community to learn about environmental jobs, careers and graduate programs at the College Center at Crozier Williams, 1941 Room, from 1 to 4 p.m. These days, it seems everyone is talking about green jobs, green industry and greening our education. But what does it all mean? Knowledgeable panelists and educational displays will answer all your questions at this free event in the College Center at Crozier Williams, 1941 Room. Some of the topics that will be discussed include environmental law, environmental studies, the green MBA, marine education, environmental research, sustainable investing and renewable energy.
