Visiting Assistant Professor of Theater (Lighting Design and Production)
The Department of Theater at Connecticut College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in Theater (one year, renewable for a second year upon review) projected to start on August 15, 2023. We seek a lighting designer to teach two design/production based courses, design lights for two of our mainstage shows, and serve as the production manager for our mainstage season. Expertise in other areas of theater welcomed (especially projection design, scenic design, or stage management).
Connecticut College Theater produces four mainstage productions per year which includes our annual Senior Theater Capstone Festival. The department currently consists of four full-time faculty members as well as adjuncts, guest directors and designers. Working with the Dance and Music Departments, as well as the Ammerman Center for Arts and Technology, we have built a vibrant, spirited and creative community and are committed to articulating new and imaginative ways to approach the field in the classroom, studio, and community through a lens of social justice oriented awareness and change. We are housed in the renovated Athey Center for Performance and Research at Palmer Auditorium and have access to one large proscenium theater, one medium-sized black box theater, and two small studio performance spaces.

Job responsibilities will include:
Teaching two design and/or production-based courses, designing lights for two shows, and production managing four mainstage shows in collaboration with the College’s technical director and Theater Services team. Teaching and training student crew members, mentoring students, and collaborating with professional guest directors and designers. Overseeing the general operation of key aspects of the production program, including but not limited to: props management, supervision of student workers, and informal mentorship of student theater organizations.
Qualifications:
MFA or PhD in theater, or comparable terminal degree in another relevant field. Professional theater design experience preferred. Successful teaching at the college level preferred. Some production management experience preferred. The ability to work creatively and collaboratively across disciplines with faculty, staff, and students of various experience levels.
