Visiting Assistant Professor of French
The Department of French invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2019, for a one-year appointment. We seek candidates with expertise in the literature and culture of France. The field of specialization is open, but we are especially interested in applicants who work in Francophone studies (including on questions of diaspora, race, and migration), and in feminism and gender studies. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise in language teaching. The teaching load includes language courses at the beginning and intermediate levels, as well as a more advanced literature/culture course in the candidate’s specialty. ABD required, Ph.D. preferred at time of application. Native or near-native fluency is required in French and preferred in English. First-round interviews will be held by video conferencing after the MLA convention in Chicago.

The teaching load for full-time Visiting Assistant Professors is five courses over two semesters. We value the contributions visitors bring to our community and encourage their active engagement with their departments and all aspects of campus life during the course of their appointment. Visiting faculty are initially participating members of the faculty and voting members in their second and subsequent years.
