Visiting Assistant Professor of Education

Connecticut College seeks applicants for a one-year visiting assistant professor position in curriculum and instruction in the Department of Education beginning July 1, 2022. The initial one-year appointment may be renewed for one additional year based on performance evaluation. The candidate will have a strong background in critical approaches to elementary or secondary education.

The successful candidate will teach five courses during the 2022-2023 academic year. Ideal candidates will bring an understanding of the larger historical, sociocultural, political, and economic contexts shaping educational practices and contemporary K-16 schools. Candidates must have: an earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction or Teacher Education; evidence of successful teaching at the college or university level; a clearly articulated research agenda; and a commitment to critical pedagogy and public education. Expertise in any of the following areas would make a contribution to the department’s curriculum: Curriculum theory and design, equity pedagogy in mathematics and science, and contemporary issues in education. Preferred qualifications include previous k-12 teaching experience or community-based education experiences.

The teaching load for a full-time visitor is five courses per academic year. We value the contributions visitors bring to our community and encourage their active engagement with their departments and all aspects of campus life during the course of their appointment. Visiting faculty are initially participating members of the faculty and voting members in their second and subsequent years; their presence is welcome at all faculty meetings. Currently, the College is not sponsoring visas for this position.
