The Department of Education at Connecticut College seeks applicants for a Lecturer in Education beginning July 1, 2024. We are particularly interested in applicants with college teaching experience and a scholarly background in multicultural literacies, urban education, gender and sexuality, and educational studies. We also seek applicants with significant K-12 classroom teaching experience and engagement in college/K-12 partnerships.

The successful candidate will teach six courses during an academic year. Teaching responsibilities may include: Intro to Educational Studies; Power and Politics in Education; Teaching for Social Justice; Reading for Joy and Justice; Gender, Identities, and Schools. 

The Department of Education is guided by a commitment to critical inquiry and practice, and supporting justice-centered, equitable educational opportunities across the P-20 continuum for all students, families, and communities. The department offers a major and a minor in Educational Studies that focuses broadly on the social foundations of education. Connecticut College does not have a teacher certification program.

Lecturers are voting members of the faculty and vital contributors to their departments. Their teaching load is 3/3. Lecturer appointments begin with a two-year period; upon successful reviews, the next two appointments are for three and five years, followed by subsequent five-year periods.

Lecturers are eligible to apply for College funding to support study, research and travel.

Candidates must have: (1) an earned doctorate in Education or a related field by the start date; (2) evidence of successful teaching at the college or university level; (3) 5 or more years of K-12 teaching experience; (4) evidence of a commitment in professional practice to equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice. Preferred qualifications: experience building College/K-12 partnerships.
