November 10, 2021

Dear Members of the Connecticut College Community,

Tomorrow is Veterans Day, a U.S. holiday that honors and recognizes those who have served in the military for their country.

Connecticut College has a long history of supporting those who have served. The College’s first graduating class–the Class of 1919–were directly involved in the very first national observance of Armistice Day when it was declared on Nov. 11, 1918.

Given our proximity to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and Naval submarine base, the Conn community may have an even greater appreciation for this kind of service. We have veterans among our staff, faculty, and students. And many of you have family members who have served. I encourage all of you to take a moment tomorrow to reflect on the meaning of this service.

As a small recognition of the day, we are holding a flag-raising ceremony by the Gatehouse at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Light refreshments will be served.

I encourage you to attend if you can, while thanking the veterans among us for their service.

Yours,

Katherine Bergeron
President
