December 23, 2020

Dear Faculty, Students, and Staff,

I hope you are all keeping safe as we bring this historic semester to a close. I am immensely grateful for the integrity, persistence, and respect you showed over the past nine months as we navigated a fall like no other. Thank you once again for all you did to make it successful.

We are now looking toward 2021, and I am writing about our search for the next dean of the College. Jefferson Singer will step down in June to return to teaching after six years of distinguished service as a member of the senior administration. There will be occasions in the coming months to acknowledge Jefferson’s many contributions, but I hope you will join me now in thanking him for all he has done for Connecticut College.

We are now launching a search within our own community to identify Dean Singer’s successor. You will find the position profile here. Applications or nominations should be sent to Lauren Middleton, secretary of the College ( Applications should include a CV and letter of intent; nominations should include a few lines about why you believe the proposed candidate would be a good fit for the position. Ideally, these should be received by February 1, 2021.

With the help of FSCC, SGA, and Staff Council, I am finalizing the search committee. I will write again in early January when all the members have been identified.

In the meantime, I send you my best wishes for a healthy, happy Winter Break and a new year filled with faith, friendship, and love.
