The national honor society for neuroscience, Nu Rho Psi, was founded in 2006 by the Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience (FUN) and is a non-profit, grassroots organization. This honor society increases interest in neuroscience and offers recognition to those who have achieved excellence in the field. Nu Rho Psi also works to increase public awareness about the importance of brain research and supports the “Friends of the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) Fund,” which works to expand brain research and promote community involvement programs.

Admittance to Nu Rho Psi requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 and a minimum GPA of 3.5 within neuroscience courses. Members must have either a major or minor in neuroscience. The Connecticut College chapter of Nu Rho Psi was chartered in 2016 as the Beta in Connecticut chapter under the direction of Professors Joseph Schroeder and Ruth Grahn. Following the tenets of the national honor society, this chapter of Nu Rho Psi has a central goal of acting as an organization which provides opportunities for community involvement and promotes acceptance of the diversity of the human condition.
