Junior Year Strategies...

Junior year is a busy one! By now you know what your study away plans are and are starting to think about summer internships. Remember to use your Conn resources—even during study away. Staff and faculty are used to connecting with students via technology when distances or time zones separate you from campus.  Zoom and Skype work well—but only if you initiate contact!

Attend fellowship sessions and workshops in the Walter Commons to learn about application processes and deadlines. Attend the Internal Funding Opportunities to see how other students have woven their interests into an academic path. Make an appointment with a fellowship adviser to discuss your options and speak with faculty mentors about your plans.

Use your journal or e-portfolio to reflect on the connections that are undoubtedly forming between your experiences off campus and your life at Conn and, if you do participate in study away, take the opportunity while in your host country to explore what is happening in your field. Seek out organizations that might serve as resources in the future—you might even find an international internship!

*IMPORTANT: Many post-graduate fellowship applications are due early in the Fall of senior year, so you will need to touch base with a fellowship adviser early to discuss your plans. Students planning to apply to post-graduate fellowships that require college endorsement must submit their Intent to Apply forms by the end of April in the junior year, even if they are abroad studying.

Contact fellowships@conncoll.edu to learn more about these and other opportunities and visit the All Campus Symposium page to learn about Connecticut College funding resources for off campus study and research.
