President Obama has appointed Trustee Emerita Sally Susman ’84 to the Library of Congress Trust Fund Board.

The board was established by Congress in 1965 to accept donations and endowments for the benefit of the library and its collections and activities. Members include the secretary or an assistant secretary of the Treasury Department, the librarian of Congress and two persons appointed by the president, four by the speaker of the House and four by the majority leader of the Senate. The appointees serve five-year terms.

The alumna said she was very excited by the commitment, which is part time, because she believes “libraries are so central to our communities.”

Susman is executive vice president for corporate affairs at the pharmaceuticals company Pfizer Inc. She previously served as executive vice president of global communications at the Estée Lauder Companies and held high-level communications and government relations posts at American Express Company.

From 1993 to 1995, she served as deputy assistant secretary for legislative and intergovernmental affairs at the Department of Commerce. She is on the boards of the International Rescue Committee, the New York City Commission on Women’s Issues, and WPP, a British multinational advertising and public relations company.
