Register now for Centennial Fall Weekend, Oct. 21-23

It will be a celebration of historic proportions.

Fall Weekend 2011 on Oct. 21-23 will feature the culminating event of the College’s Centennial year, "100 Years of Great Beginnings," and an entire weekend of celebration.

Registration is now open for parents and alumni, so please join us.

“100 Years of Great Beginnings,” modeled on the popular TED conferences, it will feature short, inspirational talks and performances by alumni, faculty, staff and students combined with video and digital content. It is scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. in Palmer Auditorium.

The weekend will feature all the traditional Fall Weekend activities including Harvestfest, faculty seminars and an all-campus picnic. On Friday the College’s a cappella groups will gather for, “A Cappella, Connecticut College Style.” The performance will be followed by a Centennial fireworks show over Tempel Green.

Everyone will also have an opportunity to sign the last steel beam for the new Science Center at New London Hall. The beam will be installed during a campus ceremony in November.

Visitors can also take in a women’s volleyball game or men’s soccer matchup against the Coast Guard Academy, followed by an alumni post-game party. Other events include a Celebration of Athletics and a gallery talk and reception with the art department.

The theater department’s “Foundations, Dreams and Inspirations,” directed by Michael Lerner ’89, will run in Tansill Theater Thursday, Oct. 20 through Sunday, Oct. 23.

Everyone is also invited to Centennial Teas in three residential houses (on North, South and Central campus). There will also be a special dedication ceremony for Ruane’s Den, a new café in Harkness House.

The weekend also features a show by the Mingus Big Band, a Grammy-nominated group that performs around the world, honoring the music of Charles Mingus.
