Student-athletes collect All-NESCAC and All-Academic accolades

Five Connecticut College student-athletes have earned All-NESCAC honors this fall, and three more have been named to CoSIDA/ ESPN The Magazine District One All-Academic teams.

Abby Hine '11 was selected to the 2009 All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Field Hockey First Team. Hine, a Dean's List student majoring in Human Development, led the team in all three major offensive categories with nine goals, six assists and 24 points.

Men's Soccer's Trevor Prophet '11 was also selected First Team All-NESCAC, while teammate Oscar Brown '12 was named to the 2009 All-NESCAC Men's Soccer Second Team. Prophet, a forward who finished the season second in the NESCAC with eight goals, also earned first team honors last year. A Dean's List student, Prophet is majoring in economics and international relations. Brown, also a Dean's List student, had two goals, four assists and eight points for the Camels this fall.

Also earning All-NESCAC honors are Volleyball teammates Amy Newman '12 and Marissa DeMais '11. Newman garnered first team honors in her inaugural appearance on the squad while DeMais was honored as a second team setter for the second consecutive year. Both were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region Team as well. Newman has emerged as one of the most powerful outside hitters in the country, finishing second in the NESCAC with 4.7 kills per set. A Dean's High Honors student, Newman, who is pursuing a degree in mathematics, also posted 10 or more kills and digs in a match nine times this fall. DeMais finished the season third in the NESCAC in assists, averaging 10.06 per set. She rallied the Camels in their 3-2 comeback victory against Wesleyan in the regular season finale Oct. 30 with a dominating 52 assists and 11 digs. A Dean's List student and cellular and molecular biology major, DeMais is also making her second straight appearance on the CoSIDA/ ESPN The Magazine District One Volleyball All-Academic Second Team.

Joining DeMais in earning CoSIDA/ ESPN The Magazine District One All-Academic honors are Men's Soccer tri-captain Mickey Lenzi '10 and Women's Soccer's Sharon Katz '10. Lenzi, a Dean's High Honors student pursuing a major in English and a minor in government, has been selected to the All-Academic First Team. Lenzi helped lead the Camels to a record of 8-6-1, the program's best finish in more than a decade and anchored a stingy defense that posted six shutouts this season. Katz is making her second straight appearance on the CoSIDA/ ESPN The Magazine District One All-Academic team. A third team selection in 2008, Katz was named to the second team this year. Leading the Camel's offense with 10 points, Katz scored three goals and finished seventh in the NESCAC with four assists. A Dean's High Honors Student, Katz will graduate with a degree in economics and a minor in mathematics.
