Connecticut College Arboretum hosting tree identification workshop Sept. 22

September 14, 2007

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College Arboretum is hosting "Name that Tree," a tree identification workshop, on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m.

Although there are several ways to identify trees, Jim Luce, supervisor of grounds at Connecticut College, will focus on identifying trees by their leaves.

The workshop will begin with a brief lecture in the college's New London Hall, room 112. Following the lecture, Luce will lead participants on a walk, during which they can practice the techniques taught during the lecture.

The text for the course is "Trees if the Eastern and Central United States and Canada," by William M. Harlow.

Registration is $15 for Arboretum members and $18 for the general public. (Students who already have a copy of the text may deduct $9.)

For further information or to register, call 860-439-5060.

The Connecticut College Arboretum was established in 1931 on the campus of Connecticut College, a private liberal arts institution. Today, the Arboretum encompasses approximately 750 acres of preserved open space in the city of New London and the town of Waterford in southeastern Connecticut, including the Connecticut College campus.
