College to sponsor Earth Day-Community Day celebration

For immediate release - March 2, 2007 Contact: Amy Sullivan (860) 439-2526; amy.sullivan@conncoll.edu   Connecticut College sponsors Earth Day-Community Day celebration   NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College and the Connecticut College Arboretum will celebrate Earth Day-Community Day with a variety of events for children and adults on the college green from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. on April 21. The rain date is April 22.

The environment-themed activities will include guided arboretum tours, storytelling, crafts, games, dancing, food and short talks about invasive plants, propagation and other environmental issues. The event will also feature vendors, artists and educational displays.

Some of the event's many participants will include Project Oceanology, Mystic Aquarium, Sierra Club, Connecticut Clean Energy Fund, SolarWrights, Coast Guard Academy Sustainability Club, Mystic Paper Beasts, singer Geoff Kaufman, Fiddleheads, Hygienic Art residents, artist Susan Stone, Shaklee Corporation and Norwich Area Global Warming Action Group.

To announce this year's Earth Day-Community Day, Connecticut College has partnered with the Regional Multicultural Magnet School's third grade classes.  Approximately 80 students have decorated informational posters that will be displayed in New London County.  This effort is being led by Hugh Birdsall and Amy Grammatica of the Regional Multicultural Magnet School.
