Connecticut College 77, SUNY IT 61 Jenn Shinall Tallies 24 Points, Six Rebounds for Camels

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.--The Connecticut College women's basketball team (6-4) secured a 77-61 victory against the State University of New York Institute of Technology (4-4) in the second round of the ECAC Holiday Classic played in the Milkhouse at the Disney Sports Complex Monday. Sophomore guard Jenn Shinall (Redding, Conn.) erupted with a game-high 24 points and six rebounds to lead the Camels to the win.
Jacqueline Shinall (Redding, Mass.) chipped in with 15 points for head coach Brian Wilson's squad. Bradie Hutchinson (Groton, Mass.) finished with 12 points and three rebounds off the bench. Jeanna Dunleavy (Chatham, N.J.) reached double-figures with 11 points and four rebounds in 17 minutes of action.
Taylor Topping (Bronx, N.Y.) paced SUNYIT with 20 points, 15 rebounds and four steals in the setback. Tamara Williams (Rome, N.Y.) ripped down 18 rebounds to go with 11 points en route to her double-double for the Wildcats. Freshman Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, N.Y.) added 10 points and three rebounds for the 'Cats.
The Camels induced 16 Wildcat turnovers in the opening half, racing out to a 43-27 lead at the break. Jenn Shinall had 14 points and four rebounds in the first stanza, shooting 3-for-4 from three-point distance.
But the Wildcats used a 16-to-4 run over 5:49 of the second stanza to reduce their deficit to 58-55. Topping scored seven points during the rally and closed out the run for SUNYIT with a hoop and one at the line with 6:34 remaining.
The Camels countered with some suffocating defense and solid work on the offensive and defensive glass. Connecticut College scored the next 12 points to push the slim three point advantage to a comfortable 70-55 lead with 1:35 remaining. Hutchinson contributed five points down the stretch and Dunleavy closed out the rally with a field goal and one at the line.
Connecticut College shot 13-for-15 at the foul line in the second half of action and closed out the 77-61 victory by converting its last nine shots at the charity stripe.
The Camels will resume play this Thursday night with a 7:00 p.m. game against Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass.
