January 31, 2009

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.--Connecticut College (5-8-3, 5-3-2) senior Caroline Jeffery (St. Paul, Minn.) erupted with a hat-trick, leading the Camels to their third straight win in a 7-3 triumph at Wesleyan University (2-16-1, 1-10-1) Saturday. Jeffery tallied in each of the three periods and the Camels out-shot the hosts 53-to-27 in the offensive uprising. The victory puts the Camels in sole possession of third place in the NESCAC as they head into the final month of regular season play.

Jillian Dolliff (Excelsior, Minn.) chipped in with a goal and an assist. Lauren Posillico (Nesconset, N.Y.) and Katelyn Driscoll (Peabody, Mass.) each contributed two assists for the Camels. Erin Davey (Nashua, N.H.) scored her fifth goal in the last four games.

Hannah Jackson (Brookline, Mass.) had a goal and an assist in the setback for the Cardinals. Emily Avener (Highland Mills, N.Y.) stopped 46 shots in the defeat. The Camels out-shot the Cardinals 50-to-13 in their first meeting Jan. 9 but lost the game 3-2. The loss may have been a turning point in the season. The Camels have not dropped a conference game since that Friday night showdown in New London. Jeffery opened the scoring at 6:41 of the first period with Driscoll assisting on the tally. With 6:59 remaining in the first, Holly Atkins (Middlebury, Vt.) put in her second goal of the season and the Camels enjoyed a 2-0 lead after one.

In the middle period, the Camels opened things up with three unanswered scores to take a 5-0 lead. The Camels killed off two Cardinal power plays in the latter stages of the second period and Rachel Lindmark (Andover, Mass.) made it a 5-0 game with her fifth score of the season just 1:21 before the intermission.

Wesleyan scored the first three goals of the third period to pull within two but Jeffery found the back of the net for the third time with 4:29 remaining in regulation to make it a 6-3 game, completing her career-day with assists coming from Driscoll and Posillico.

Dolliff added an additional insurance score to close out the scoring in the 7-3 win. Junior Sara Christopher (Andover, Mass.) had 24 saves in the victory.

Rachel Lindmark (5 goals, 5 assists) and Ashleigh Kowtoniuk (Johnstown, Pa.) (4 goals, 6 assists) have tallied 10 points apiece to lead the Camels in scoring. Lauren Mellen (Joliet, Ill.) has registered a 2.82 goals against average and a .921 save percentage in 11 starts between the pipes. Sara Christopher has a 2.88 GAA and a .897 save percentage with 52 saves in five games played.

The Camels will host St. Olaf College Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in New London.
