NEW LONDON, Conn. - Stephen George, Connecticut College's manager of planning design and construction, has won the 2008 Associated General Contractors of Connecticut Construction Industry Recognition Award in the Private Owner category for managing the college's construction and renovation projects with exemplary skill, integrity and responsibility. "This award is a symbol of the high level of excellence, experience, discipline and focus the college requires and expects of our managers and supervisors," Vice President for Administration Ulysses Hammond said. "Steve's faithful commitment to the college and partnership-style of management make him more than deserving of this recognition."
Award winners were selected based on their professionalism, leadership and successful business practices, on-time project completion while meeting or exceeding financial targets and display of working practices that reflect the Associated General Contractors' slogan of skill, integrity and responsibility.
During his nearly 20 years of service at Connecticut College, George has been responsible for the design and construction of more than $100 million in new facilities and renovations. Currently, George is managing the college's $60 million, 10-year campus renewal plan, which is focused on enhancing technology in learning environments, revitalizing student life, boosting energy efficiency and updating staff and faculty office spaces.
