Connecticut College to host Christmas-themed carol service
December 04, 2008
NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College's annual Christmas-themed carol service, "A CAMEL SEEKS THE STAR: A Service of Lessons and Carols," will be held in the Harkness Chapel at Connecticut College at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10.
The free service, a candlelight program of readings and carols, has been a holiday tradition at Connecticut College since 1917.
This year's service will include performances by the Connecticut College Chamber Choir. Readings and prayers will be delivered by faculty, staff, students and three of the college chaplains; The Revs. Lee Ireland, Laurence LaPointe and Carolyn Patierno.
Services of this type originated in England and traditionally consist of several scripture lessons, each followed by a carol. This year's service features readings and Christmas carols that relate to the themes of hope, peace, love and joy.
