Wiesel´s ´Trial of God´ to play at Connecticut College

November 25, 2008

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College students will take on Elie Wiesel´s powerful and moving play, "The Trial of God," Dec. 4, 6 and 7 with a free performance at Congregation Beth-El in New London and additional performances at Connecticut College.

A brilliant drama about the internalization of genocide and the human tragedy, "The Trial of God," is set in 1649, in the aftermath of a Russian pogrom. The last Jewish family in one village is visited by three Jewish minstrels who put God on trial for crimes against humanity. Both a book and play, "The Trial of God," is said to be based on Wiesel´s real-life experience at Auschwitz, where he witnessed three rabbis, close to death, indicting God.

Wiesel is a professor, Holocaust Survivor, Nobel Laureate and author to 57 books, including "Night," a memoir of his imprisonment during the Holocaust.

Organized by Connecticut College students in conjunction with the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, "Trial of God," will play Thursday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. in the Connecticut College Palmer Auditorium, room 202, and at Congregation Beth -El in New London Saturday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. Call (860) 439-3957 for more information.
