Music in the air at Connecticut College this December

Make We Joy celebrates the Winter Solstice at Connecticut College.

NEW LONDON, Conn. - There´s a little something for everyone this December at Connecticut College with musical performances, a celebration of the Winter Solstice and a little drama. All events are free and open to the public and take place on the Connecticut College campus, unless otherwise noted.

Musical Performances:

"Voice Recital," Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. in Fortune Recital Hall, Cummings Arts Center. Voice students perform under the direction of Jurate Waller and Max Ivanov. Call (860) 439-2720 for more information.

"Connecticut College Orchestra Concert," directed by Jason Duckles and Anthea Kreston, adjunct professors of music. Featuring Schubert´s "Unfinished Symphony," Bizet´s "Carmen Suit" and excerpts from Mozart´s "Marriage of Figaro," with student soloists, Thursday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center. "Dance Department Faculty Concert," with choreography by Heidi Henderson, visiting assistant professor of dance, guest artist Tania Isaac and Connecticut College students, Friday, Dec. 5, and Saturday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Palmer Auditorium. Connecticut College Concert Band and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Band present "A Russian Christmas," directed by Gary Buttery, adjunct professor of music, and CWO Kirk Edwards, Friday, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m. in Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center. "Connecticut College Percussion Ensemble and Connecticut College New Music Ensemble," dedicated to Composer Elliott Carter in celebration of his 100th year and featuring music by Carter, John Cage, Giacinto Scelsi, Lou Harrison, Wayne Peterson and Eric Moe, Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. in Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center.
