The 2008-2009 squash season is underway. Head coach Bill McNally returns for his ninth season as head coach of the Camels´ men´s and women´s squash programs. McNally will rely on the leadership of juniors Kevin Coscarelli (West Hartford, Conn.) and Will Moger (Bristol, R.I.) to serve as co-captains of the men´s teams. Senior Chrissie Parsons (New Canaan, Conn.) and junior Cara Flynn (Haverford, Pa.) will captain the women´s squad.
The women´s team will benefit from the experience and leadership of Parsons and Flynn who have enjoyed more than their share of success at the top of the rotation. Together this talented tandem won 78% of their match-ups at the top of the rotation.
Flynn dominated her opposition, putting together a phenomenal 21-2 record. Parsons was an impressive 15-8 for the Camels, holding down the #1 spot in the rotation for most of the season.
Senior Steph Timpone (Malverne, N.Y.) join this group as a seasoned veteran, who should come up with some key points for the Camels this year. McNally looks for Laura Abrams (Avon, Conn.) to make an impact in her first year with the program.
The Camel men are excited to get the season started. Moger won 89% of his matches (17-2) between #4 and #5 on the ladder in a breakout 2007-2008 season for the Camels. Cosarelli posted a 15-6 mark between #6 and #7 for the Camels in an impressive sophomore campaign. Look for both captains to build on these impressive numbers this winter.
Sophomore Blay Bradley (Woodstock, Vt.), Tyler Stilwell (McLean, Va.), join Coscarelli and Moger as the veterans of the squad.
Bill McNally is pleased to announce the roster of incoming freshman to the Connecticut College Men´s Squash program.
Antonio Diaz-Gonzalez Salas (Mexico City, Mexico/St George´s School) will step in and make an immediate impact at #1 on the ladder. Diaz-Gonzales Salas won the 2007 US Junior Open and was a bronze medalist in the Pan-American Games. A two-time winner of the New England Interscholastic (NEISL) Squash Championships and the Jackson Tournament (ISL), Diaz-Gonzales Salas will lead a group of four freshmen.
Joining Diaz is St George´s teammate Ben Bainbridge (West Hartford, Conn.), Jon Markson (Allentown, Pa./Moravian Academy) and Jeremy Wong (Newton, Mass./Newton South HS) Hunter Siegel (Westport, Conn./Westminster School) rejoins the team after missing his freshman season to an injury.
"I am very pleased with the recruiting year and these guys will make an immediate impact because we graduated our top four players on the ladder," McNally said. "We are excited about the depth and quality of the freshman class."
Both teams will open the season with matches at Dartmouth College this weekend.
