Walsh Sets School Record in 50 & 100 Yard Back for Men Komninos wins 100 Yard Back for Women

NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College swimming and diving teams opened the season Saturday with a meet against NESCAC rival Williams College at Lott Natatorium. The Ephs earned a 166-112 victory in the men´s action and topped the Camels by a count of 180-108 in the women´s race.

The Camels had plenty of individual highlights to go along with some exceptional performances in the relays. Williams captured the men´s and women´s NESCAC Championship in 2008.

Tim Walsh (Lincoln Park, N.J.) was impressive in his first collegiate meet. Walsh set school records in the 50 and 100 yard backstroke, finishing with respective times of 25.11 seconds and 53.45 seconds He added an individual win in the 200 yard back, posting a time of 1:57.82 for head coach Marc Benvenuti´s squad.

Junior Sam Perley (Charlotte, N.C.) cruised to victories in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke, logging times of 1:01:08 and 2:17.17.

Walsh and Perley teamed up with junior All-Americans Pat Troy and Grant Moryan for a winning time of 1:37.01 in the 200 yard medley relay. In the 200 yard freestyle relay, Walsh, Troy, Moryan, and sophomore Austin Meszaros (Morristown, N.J.) posted a victory with a time of 1:26.91.

Freshman Kat Komninos (Woodbury, Conn.) made quite a splash in her collegiate debut, collecting a victory in the 100 yard backstroke with a lifetime best time of 1:02.37.

Following up on her successful rookie season, sophomore Sarah Murphy (Williamsburg, Va.) posted a second place finishing time of 1:59.05 in the 200 yard free. Murphy notched a victory in the 100 yard butterfly 1:01.14 and excelled with a strong finish of 55.53 seconds in the 100 yard freestyle.

Junior Kristen Zarba (Beverly, Mass.) posted a time of 2:02.84 in the 200 yard free. Zarba chipped in with second place finishes in 100 and 200 yard fly, posting times of 1:01.42 and 2:12.45.
